Sessa Aurunca], following along the coastline, there is a gulf of considerable size that reaches as far as the promontory of Misenum; from there another gulf begins, much larger than the first, which they call Crater (\u039a\u03c1\u03b1\u03c4\u03b7\u03c1) and which extends between two capes, that of Misenum and the Athenaion [Punta Campanella]. Within these coasts lies Campania, a plain that is the most favoured of all.&#8221;<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"kt-adv-heading4296_2c076f-57 wp-block-kadence-advancedheading has-theme-palette-4-color has-text-color\" data-kb-block=\"kb-adv-heading4296_2c076f-57\">The Greek author of the 1st century AD Strabo, thus described in book VI of his great work \u2013 the &#8216;Geography&#8217; \u2013 the present-day gulf of Naples. The word he used to define the place is a word rich in implications. Indeed, at first the term \u03ba\u03c1\u03b1\u03c4\u03b7\u03c1 certainly means to indicate an inlet, a natural gulf; but at the same time, never disjointedly, the word is also the name of volcanic cones, craters precisely. Strabo thus, in his geographical survey, shows that he well understood the volcanic nature of the Campanian places. But \u03ba\u03c1\u03b1\u03c4\u03b7\u03c1 (krat\u00e9r) in the Greek language and culture is above all the name of the enormous vessel in which water and wine were mixed, a word that by extension often also indicated the chalices and cups from which one drank the beverage sacred to Dionysus. The language thus reveals the proximity and the identity that the ancient Greeks perceived between the wine dimension and the volcanic one. Indeed, the black earth of the Vesuvian region, the earth pulla (brown, dark) as the Romans called it, connoted, by virtue of its markedly volcanic nature, the conditions of a particularly fertile soil, rich in potash and other precious minerals that make agricultural products flavourful and fragrant. Among these, an exceptional place was held by the vine, and therefore wine, the most widespread and most prestigious element of Vesuvian agricultural activities, as abundantly testified by the finds from the excavations of Pompeii and Herculaneum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"kt-adv-heading4296_c46d9a-73 wp-block-kadence-advancedheading has-theme-palette-4-color has-text-color\" data-kb-block=\"kb-adv-heading4296_c46d9a-73\">Particularly sought after from the Vesuvian region in antiquity were the so-called &#8216;Greek&#8217; wines. Their name, of medieval origin, derives from the fact that the vine was cultivated in southern Italy, which was within the orbit of the Byzantine empire and, even earlier, of Magna Graecia. The medieval intellectual F. Petrarch in his Itinerarium ad Sepulcrum Domini writes: &#8220;The mountain [Vesuvius] is rich in many products but above all in excellent wine, which is now called Greco, because once that part of Italy, in the possession of the Greeks, was called Magna Graecia.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"kt-adv-heading4296_38745b-a0 wp-block-kadence-advancedheading has-theme-palette-4-color has-text-color\" data-kb-block=\"kb-adv-heading4296_38745b-a0\">On the historical level only a few provinces of China or of the fertile crescent can boast agricultural roots more distant than those of the Vesuvian region, a broad region, characterised by a soil fertility among the most generous on the globe, to take up the final part of Strabo&#8217;s above-cited quotation. These pronounced territorial components, together with the most favourable climate, have aided the cultivation of the vine and the production of a well-defined product. Moreover, the stronger the &#8216;personality&#8217; of the territory, the more exclusive, the more distinct, the wine that springs from it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"kt-adv-heading4296_0d1640-23 wp-block-kadence-advancedheading has-custom-color-2-color has-text-color has-custom-color-6-background-color has-background\" data-kb-block=\"kb-adv-heading4296_0d1640-23\"><em>&#8220;The French term terroir derives from the Latin terra,ae and is meant to indicate what the Romans indicated with the concept of locus\u2026 the genius of the locus, that is, a well-delimited geographical area that, by virtue of its character, inevitably particular, is suited to a well-specific production, of excellence, virtually unreproducible elsewhere because indissolubly anchored to the land.&#8221;<\/em><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"kt-adv-heading4296_cefd7b-ef wp-block-kadence-advancedheading has-theme-palette-4-color has-text-color\" data-kb-block=\"kb-adv-heading4296_cefd7b-ef\">Indeed, the French term terroir derives from the Latin terra,ae and is meant to indicate what the Romans indicated with the concept of locus, that is, a place having a particular vocation, a character, which, if perceived and amplified, was capable of yielding products of notable, exalted quality. Modern terroir refers precisely to this, to the genius of the locus, that is, to a well-delimited geographical area that, by virtue of its character, inevitably particular, is suited to a well-specific production, of excellence, virtually unreproducible elsewhere because indissolubly anchored to the land.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"kt-adv-heading4296_0168ee-9a wp-block-kadence-advancedheading has-theme-palette-4-color has-text-color\" data-kb-block=\"kb-adv-heading4296_0168ee-9a\">It is thus understood how the vines of the Vesuvian area are all unicum, deeply marked by history and territory: besides Greco, among the white-berried vines there are Falanghina, Coda di volpe, Catalanesca and corniola, while among the dark-skinned there are Palombina or piede di palombo, Aglianico, Cascaveglia and Olivella. J.-C. Strabon, d\u00e9crivit ainsi dans le livre VI de sa grande \u0153uvre \u2013 la \u00ab G\u00e9ographie \u00bb \u2013 l&#8217;actuel golfe de Naples. Le mot qu&#8217;il utilisa pour d\u00e9finir le lieu est un mot riche d&#8217;implications. En effet, dans un premier temps le terme \u03ba\u03c1\u03b1\u03c4\u03b7\u03c1 veut certainement indiquer une anse, un golfe naturel ; mais en m\u00eame temps, jamais s\u00e9par\u00e9ment, le mot est aussi le nom des c\u00f4nes volcaniques, des crat\u00e8res justement. Strabon montre ainsi, dans son tour d&#8217;horizon g\u00e9ographique, qu&#8217;il comprend bien la nature volcanique des lieux campaniens. Mais \u03ba\u03c1\u03b1\u03c4\u03b7\u03c1 (krat\u00e9r) dans la langue et la culture grecques est surtout le nom de l&#8217;\u00e9norme r\u00e9cipient dans lequel on m\u00e9langeait l&#8217;eau et le vin, un mot qui par extension d\u00e9signait souvent aussi les calices et les coupes dans lesquels on buvait la boisson sacr\u00e9e de Dionysos. La langue r\u00e9v\u00e8le ainsi la proximit\u00e9 et l&#8217;identit\u00e9 que les anciens Grecs percevaient entre la dimension viticole et la dimension volcanique. En effet, la terre noire de la r\u00e9gion v\u00e9suvienne, la terre pulla (brune, sombre) comme l&#8217;appelaient les Romains, connotait, en vertu de sa nature nettement volcanique, les conditions d&#8217;un sol particuli\u00e8rement fertile, riche en potasse et en d&#8217;autres min\u00e9raux pr\u00e9cieux qui rendent les produits agricoles savoureux et parfum\u00e9s. Parmi ceux-ci, une place exceptionnelle revenait \u00e0 la vigne, et donc au vin, l&#8217;\u00e9l\u00e9ment le plus r\u00e9pandu et le plus prestigieux des activit\u00e9s agricoles v\u00e9suviennes, comme en t\u00e9moignent abondamment les vestiges des fouilles de Pomp\u00e9i et d&#8217;Herculanum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"kt-adv-heading4296_101caf-2b wp-block-kadence-advancedheading has-theme-palette-4-color has-text-color\" data-kb-block=\"kb-adv-heading4296_101caf-2b\">Particuli\u00e8rement recherch\u00e9s depuis la r\u00e9gion v\u00e9suvienne dans l&#8217;Antiquit\u00e9 \u00e9taient les vins dits \u00ab grecs \u00bb. Leur nom, d&#8217;origine m\u00e9di\u00e9vale, vient du fait que le c\u00e9page \u00e9tait cultiv\u00e9 dans l&#8217;Italie m\u00e9ridionale, qui \u00e9tait dans l&#8217;orbite de l&#8217;empire byzantin et, plus t\u00f4t encore, de la Grande Gr\u00e8ce. L&#8217;intellectuel m\u00e9di\u00e9val F. P\u00e9trarque \u00e9crit dans son Itinerarium ad Sepulcrum Domini : \u00ab Le mont [V\u00e9suve] est riche en de nombreux produits mais avant tout en un vin excellent, qu&#8217;on appelle aujourd&#8217;hui Greco, parce qu&#8217;autrefois cette partie de l&#8217;Italie, aux mains des Grecs, \u00e9tait appel\u00e9e Grande Gr\u00e8ce. \u00bb<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"kt-adv-heading4296_3b1dda-02 wp-block-kadence-advancedheading has-theme-palette-4-color has-text-color\" data-kb-block=\"kb-adv-heading4296_3b1dda-02\">Sur le plan historique, seules quelques provinces de la Chine ou du croissant fertile peuvent se pr\u00e9valoir de racines agricoles plus anciennes que celles de la r\u00e9gion v\u00e9suvienne, une r\u00e9gion vaste, caract\u00e9ris\u00e9e par une fertilit\u00e9 du sol parmi les plus g\u00e9n\u00e9reuses du globe, pour reprendre la partie finale de la citation de Strabon susmentionn\u00e9e. Ces composantes territoriales marqu\u00e9es, conjugu\u00e9es \u00e0 un climat des plus favorables, ont favoris\u00e9 la culture de la vigne et la production d&#8217;un produit bien d\u00e9fini. Strabone, cosi descrisse nel libro VI della sua grande opera &#8211; la \u2018Geografia\u2019 &#8211; l\u2019attuale golfo di Napoli. La parola che utilizz\u00f2 per definire il luogo \u00e8 una parola ricca di implicazioni. Infatti, in un primo momento il termine \u03ba\u03c1\u03b1\u03c4\u03b7\u03c1 (krat\u00e9r) vuole indicare certamente una insenatura, un golfo naturale; ma allo stesso tempo, mai disgiuntamente, la parola \u00e8 anche il nome dei coni vulcanici, crateri appunto. Strabone cosi nella sua rassegna geografica dimostra di ben comprendere la natura vulcanica dei luoghi campani. Ma \u03ba\u03c1\u03b1\u03c4\u03b7\u03c1 nella lingua e nella cultura greca \u00e8 soprattutto il nome dell\u2019enorme recipiente in cui si mescevano l\u2019acqua e il vino, una parola che per estensione indicava spesso anche i calici e le coppe da cui si beveva la bevanda sacra a Dioniso. La lingua cosi, rivela la prossimit\u00e0 e l\u2019identit\u00e0 che gli antichi greci coglievano tra la dimensione vinicola e quella vulcanica. Infatti la terra nera della regione vesuviana, la terra <em>pulla (bruna, scura)<\/em> come la chiamavano i Romani, connotava, in virt\u00f9 della sua natura marcatamente vulcanica, le condizioni di un suolo particolarmente fertile, ricco di potassa e di altri preziosi minerali che rendono i prodotti agricoli saporosi e profumati. Tra questi, eccezionale posto aveva la vite, e quindi il vino, l\u2019elemento pi\u00f9 diffuso e pi\u00f9 prestigioso delle attivit\u00e0 agricole vesuviane, come testimoniato abbondantemente dai reperti degli scavi di Pompei e Ercolano.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"kt-adv-heading4296_978e3a-bc wp-block-kadence-advancedheading has-theme-palette-4-color has-text-color\" data-kb-block=\"kb-adv-heading4296_978e3a-bc\">Particolarmente richiesti dalla regione vesuviana nell\u2019antichit\u00e0 erano i vini cosiddetti \u2018grechi\u2019. Il nome di questi, di origine medievale, deriva dal fatto che il vitigno veniva coltivato nell\u2019Italia meridionale, che era nell\u2019orbita dell\u2019impero bizantino e prima ancora della Magna Grecia. L\u2019intellettuale medievale F. Petrarca nel suo <em>Itinerarium ad Sepulcrum Domini<\/em> scrive: \u201cIl monte [Vesuvio] \u00e8 ricco di tanti prodotti ma in primis di vino eccellente, che ora \u00e8 detto Greco, perch\u00e9 una volta quella parte di Italia, in possesso dei greci, veniva chiamata Magna Grecia\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"kt-adv-heading4296_59c516-75 wp-block-kadence-advancedheading has-theme-palette-4-color has-text-color\" data-kb-block=\"kb-adv-heading4296_59c516-75\">Sul piano storico solo alcune province della Cina o della mezzaluna fertile possono vantare radici agricole pi\u00f9 lontane della regione vesuviana, una regione ampia, caratterizzata da una fertilit\u00e0 del suolo tra le pi\u00f9 generose del globo, per riprendere la parte finale della citazione di Strabone sopracitata. Queste componenti territoriali spiccate, congiuntamente al clima favorevolissimo, hanno aiutato la coltivazione della vite e la produzione di un prodotto ben definito. Innerhalb dieser K\u00fcsten erstreckt sich Kampanien, eine Ebene, die von allen die beg\u00fcnstigtste ist.&#8221;<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"kt-adv-heading4296_625c02-cb wp-block-kadence-advancedheading has-theme-palette-4-color has-text-color\" data-kb-block=\"kb-adv-heading4296_625c02-cb\">Der griechische Autor des 1. Jh. n. Chr. Strabon beschrieb so im VI. Buch seines gro\u00dfen Werkes \u2013 der \u201aGeographie&#8217; \u2013 den heutigen Golf von Neapel. Das Wort, das er zur Bezeichnung des Ortes verwendete, ist ein Wort voller Implikationen. Tats\u00e4chlich will der Begriff \u03ba\u03c1\u03b1\u03c4\u03b7\u03c1 zun\u00e4chst gewiss eine Bucht, einen nat\u00fcrlichen Golf bezeichnen; gleichzeitig aber, nie getrennt davon, ist das Wort auch der Name der Vulkankegel, eben der Krater. Strabon zeigt so in seiner geographischen \u00dcbersicht, dass er die vulkanische Natur der kampanischen Orte gut verstanden hat. Aber \u03ba\u03c1\u03b1\u03c4\u03b7\u03c1 (krat\u00e9r) ist in der griechischen Sprache und Kultur vor allem der Name des riesigen Gef\u00e4\u00dfes, in dem Wasser und Wein gemischt wurden, ein Wort, das im \u00fcbertragenen Sinne oft auch die Kelche und Becher bezeichnete, aus denen man das dem Dionysos heilige Getr\u00e4nk trank. Die Sprache offenbart so die N\u00e4he und die Identit\u00e4t, die die alten Griechen zwischen der weinbaulichen und der vulkanischen Dimension wahrnahmen. Unter diesen nahm die Rebe einen au\u00dfergew\u00f6hnlichen Platz ein, und damit der Wein, das am weitesten verbreitete und angesehenste Element der vesuvianischen Landwirtschaft, wie die Funde der Ausgrabungen von Pompeji und Herculaneum reichlich bezeugen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"kt-adv-heading4296_2d4e8e-83 wp-block-kadence-advancedheading has-theme-palette-4-color has-text-color\" data-kb-block=\"kb-adv-heading4296_2d4e8e-83\">Besonders begehrt aus der vesuvianischen Region waren in der Antike die sogenannten \u201agriechischen&#8217; Weine. Ihr Name, mittelalterlichen Ursprungs, r\u00fchrt daher, dass die Rebsorte in S\u00fcditalien angebaut wurde, das im Einflussbereich des byzantinischen Reiches und noch fr\u00fcher von Magna Graecia lag. Der mittelalterliche Gelehrte F. Petrarca schreibt in seinem Itinerarium ad Sepulcrum Domini: \u201eDer Berg [Vesuv] ist reich an vielen Erzeugnissen, vor allem aber an ausgezeichnetem Wein, der jetzt Greco genannt wird, weil jener Teil Italiens einst, im Besitz der Griechen, Magna Graecia genannt wurde.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"kt-adv-heading4296_6ea5d6-9d wp-block-kadence-advancedheading has-theme-palette-4-color has-text-color\" data-kb-block=\"kb-adv-heading4296_6ea5d6-9d\">Historisch gesehen k\u00f6nnen nur wenige Provinzen Chinas oder des fruchtbaren Halbmonds \u00e4ltere landwirtschaftliche Wurzeln vorweisen als die vesuvianische Region, eine weite Region, gekennzeichnet durch eine Bodenfruchtbarkeit, die zu den gro\u00dfz\u00fcgigsten der Welt z\u00e4hlt, um den Schlussteil des oben zitierten Strabon-Zitats wieder aufzugreifen. La palabra que utiliz\u00f3 para definir el lugar es una palabra rica en implicaciones. En efecto, en un primer momento el t\u00e9rmino \u03ba\u03c1\u03b1\u03c4\u03b7\u03c1 quiere indicar ciertamente una ensenada, un golfo natural; pero al mismo tiempo, nunca de forma disociada, la palabra es tambi\u00e9n el nombre de los conos volc\u00e1nicos, cr\u00e1teres precisamente. Estrab\u00f3n as\u00ed, en su rese\u00f1a geogr\u00e1fica, demuestra comprender bien la naturaleza volc\u00e1nica de los lugares campanos. Pero \u03ba\u03c1\u03b1\u03c4\u03b7\u03c1 (krat\u00e9r) en la lengua y en la cultura griega es sobre todo el nombre del enorme recipiente en el que se mezclaban el agua y el vino, una palabra que por extensi\u00f3n indicaba a menudo tambi\u00e9n los c\u00e1lices y las copas de las que se beb\u00eda la bebida sagrada de Dioniso. La lengua as\u00ed revela la proximidad y la identidad que los antiguos griegos captaban entre la dimensi\u00f3n vin\u00edcola y la volc\u00e1nica. En efecto, la tierra negra de la regi\u00f3n vesubiana, la tierra pulla (parda, oscura) como la llamaban los romanos, connotaba, en virtud de su naturaleza marcadamente volc\u00e1nica, las condiciones de un suelo particularmente f\u00e9rtil, rico en potasa y en otros preciosos minerales que hacen los productos agr\u00edcolas sabrosos y arom\u00e1ticos.
